Reporting to the Director, Talent Experience, the Principal Associate, HR Analytics will focus on spearheading people analytics projects to ensure the successful delivery, development and implementation of people analytics solutions, aligned with Capital One’s overall vision. How do we do things at Capital One Canada? We listen — to our people, and to our customers. We change with the times and have adopted a hybrid model (remote and in-office). Associates working in the hybrid model are expected to come into the office 3 days a week across Tuesdays and Thursdays, reserving Mondays and Fridays as company-wide virtual days. A day in the life of a Principal Associate, HR Analytics.

Our Human Resources team combines thought leadership, best practices and data analytics to shape critical people decisions and strategy at Capital One. We work closely with enterprise HR partners and senior executives in shaping policy, and informing real-time decisions with data.  

As a Principal Associate, HR Analytics, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to solve open-ended, complex questions pertaining to how we should attract, develop, and retain top talent. You will team up with world-class professionals and senior leaders to work on impactful projects. You will get to do this in a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning, rewards innovation, and prioritizes continuous development.

Your day-to-day might involve:

  • Design, identify and drive effective measurement to support the HR strategy (i.e. Deep dives, KPIs and  dashboards for employee engagement, representation, recruitment, growth and associate experience)

  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative analytical tools that will inform HR process within HR to inform optimization opportunities,, by breaking down problem statements, analyzing complex data sets, articulating insights that inform strategic recommendations

  • Use data to help senior leaders set ambitious people related goals, such as  understand the state of our associate’s engagement

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic problem solving: Identify high impact opportunities to transform the associate experience, conduct analysis, and share insights that inform solutions.

  • Design: Drive and build key programs and analytics solutions for our partners, including measurement strategy, modeling, and automated insights.

  • Experimentation: Partner with internal clients in experiment design to better understand key drivers of associate sentiment and behavior.

  • Market Research: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and shifts in workforce dynamics, emerging technologies and evolving best practices. Make data-driven decisions that enable us to anticipate talent needs, optimize recruitment and retention strategies, and ensure competitiveness in attracting and retaining top talent. 

  • Insights & analysis: Analyze the impact of our programs and combine those insights with the latest thinking in organizational science to help our clients make data-driven, informed decisions. Adapt methodologies and tools as business needs pivot, to maintain relevance and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving environment. 

Successful team members demonstrate competencies in these areas:

  • Analytical thinking: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Identify opportunities for improvement and use data to make strategic and tactical recommendations.

  • Execution: Develop and test hypotheses, design solutions, assess operational feasibility, support implementation efforts, and develop plans and tools for monitoring outcomes.

  • Thought Partnership: Collaborate effectively with other HR team members and clients, working together to navigate complex challenges.  

  • Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to “tell the story” through data, and highlight key insights in a clear and concise manner that can be easily understood by stakeholders.

  • Results focus: Drives for results and achieves important goals applying strong organizational skills and detail orientation, even amidst ambiguity.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any quantitative field (Business, Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Science, Engineering or related field)

  • 5+ years of experience with data analytics and insights, focus on HR preferred

  • Experience working with programming tools (i.e. SQL) and data visualization tools (i.e. Power BI, Tableau, QuickSight)

  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills, creative storyteller with a passion for people data

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a high degree of ambiguity and autonomy

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Curiosity to learn and build great relationships with internal clients at various
